Spring is coming – ways to get un-stuck and put the spring back in your step!
Why we sometimes feel stuck
The spring flowers are coming out. But what about you? Do you feel springy and bouncy? Or do you feel stuck?
Nature doesn’t get stuck no matter what gets thrown at it – it finds a way of getting through. But sometimes we struggle to do the same.
When things don’t go to plan, it can be easy to grind to a halt and get stuck in a groove with a particular emotion that sucks everything out of us. We seem to get stuck in that particular emotion. When this happen, what can we do?
Well everything in life goes in cycles. Nothing stays the same – everything changes all the time. Yet we humans seem to want everything to stay the same.
One thing that does change in us is our emotions. Whether we like it or not! Most of us are trained as children to suppress our emotions. It is not socially acceptable to show most of our emotions. (Especially before Diana died.) Hence we can no longer allow ourselves to be energy in motion which is all that our emotions are. We are scared of what this energy might do. May be we crave this consistency, because we think it makes us feel safe.
However real feeling of safety only comes from finding what it takes to get ourselves unstuck, to stay in the flow and to honour who we are, no matter what life throws at us. It’s no coincidence that when we see something that touches our emotions a film for example – we say we feel moved.
Moving
One of the ways to get out of feeling stuck is quite simply to move in a literal sense. Stop doing whatever task you are struggling with and focus on a different one. What I call: ‘stop bashing your head against a brick wall’, it hurts! Better still go outside for a walk or a bike ride. For me it’s good time to go and a swim.
5 Rhythms
Or you can do something outside the box. There is a way that can really help us understand how we can ride the waves of our emotions without fear of drowning. So that you can get the spring back in your step.
Put on your dancing shoes – and dance away your blues! As Cliff Richard sang back in 1963.
